In 2016, I was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Six resections. Immunotherapy. Chemo. Through almost all of it, I kept working and minimizing. The shift came lying in a chemo bed alone — not because nobody cared, but because I had made it easy for everyone to believe I was fine.
That led me to ask: Why did I do that? Why did I feel guilty for being sick? Why had I spent decades making myself easy to overlook?
Those weren't medical questions. They were pattern questions.
