The problem is that math and science are presented in way that emphasizes rote memorization of facts and procedures invented long ago with no relevance to their lives. Forcing kids to answer questions under a time constraint only causes further anxiety. Of course they hate it.

Fortunately, this is not what math and science really are. Fundamentally they are about play, curiosity, observation, pattern recognition, developing intuitions about how reality works and creative problem solving. We are all naturally born scientists - from the moment we are born we are experimenting, coming up with hypotheses and testing them through play. This is what this community is about.
