Finally Free After Bullying

My name is Joan, born in 1970. I live in Eindhoven, in the southeast of the Netherlands, close to the Belgian border and not far from Germany. For about thirty years, I have worked as a psychosocial therapist with people who have been deeply affected by bullying — children and adolescents, but especially adults who were bullied in their childhood and still feel the impact today.

My expertise is not only professional, but also personal. As a child, I myself experienced years of intense bullying. From an early age, I became aware of how little truly appropriate support was available. Bullying was often dismissed as harmless teasing, or explained away as a sign that “something else must be wrong with you.” Over the years, awareness and involvement from professionals have fortunately increased, yet the profound and long-lasting impact of bullying is still frequently underestimated.
