Creating music isn't just a trivial waste of time; God gave Adam the mandate to go and cultivate the earth and tend the garden. When you cultivate a garden, you make it more beautiful. We don't have "the garden" around us, but we do have things like paint, music, and so forth. It's not just important; it's purposeful. In other words: make it fruitful and beautiful.

When you make something unto the Lord, you are participating in the calling to cultivate the world around us.
